Blog Comments..the good, the bad, the ugly8:58 AM
had a question put to me as a writing prompt for NaBloPoMo today, it was about comments on the blog, and since I missed days one and two, I am combining all 3 days in to one post because they all really go together in a sense.
The first was: Do you have a comment guideline on your blog? The answer to that is yes. I do not allow profanity, not do I allow someone to bash another member of make rude comments about another member's comment. You can say what you feel about my post, as long as you leave off the profanity. That is the reason for the comment section, you don't have to agree with me or what I post, I never ask you too, I love hearing feedback, good or bad, but I will not allow profanity.
Number 2 who owns the comment section , me or the blog readers? I would have to say both, because even though I check comments for profanity and such and make sure no one is starting drama, I encourage my readers to post comments, the more the better, I want my readers to own what they write. If a post I made makes you angry, by all means, tell me all about it, if you simply disagree, tell me, and tell me why. If you loved a post, then tell me what you love about it.
Now, the mail post...Have I ever deleted a comment? Yes, but not from a reader, from one of those spam bots who can't speak proper and post something totally unrelated to my post. Would I ever delete a comment? I certainly would and will if I ever see someone using profanity or bashing something another reader has to say in a negative way. A good debate is fine, but you keep it clean, no dirty punches, no knock downs without warning, yep I will delete it as soon as I see it which is usually within a day or two.
I want my readers to be able to come here on the blog and post comments and post exactly what they think. not just thanks or I like it, I like to alley hear what you have to say. I like ot know you are hearing what I have to say and responding in kind to what I write.
It may be my blog, but it is also your blog too as a reader. Comments on blog post are the largest part of knowing what you like and what you don't like. If you want to write a page, then by all means, write until it won't let you write anymore then start again on a new comment. Write until you have said all you have to say.
Comments are for me, but also for you. They are for me because I get the feedback that I need and want, they are for you because you get the opportunity to say what you think and feel about anything I write.
So, yes, I weld love to see my readers own the comments on the blog, I would love o see what you have to say and say it loudly in the comment section of every post I write.
